What MAT means

Medication-assisted treatment—often called MAT—uses medication together with counseling, behavioral therapies, recovery supports, and ongoing clinical monitoring. The goal is not simply to prescribe medication. It is to reduce risk, improve stability, and help the patient work toward individualized recovery goals.

Treatment choices are made jointly by the patient and qualified clinical professionals. The plan may change as needs, progress, safety concerns, and goals change.

  • Medical and substance-use assessment
  • Review of benefits, risks, alternatives, and informed consent
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Medication monitoring and outside-pharmacy coordination
  • Care coordination and recovery-support referrals
  • Regular review of progress and continued clinical need
Harbor’s onsite scope

Clear medication boundaries

Prescriptions are sent to outside pharmacies. The only medication Harbor stores for direct onsite clinical use is extended-release injectable naltrexone (Vivitrol), administered by appropriately licensed medical personnel under medical direction when clinically appropriate.

Harbor does not dispense or administer Schedule II controlled substances onsite. Specific medication availability and eligibility are determined through clinical evaluation and may depend on pharmacy, payer, and supply requirements.

Vivitrol visits

Before an injection, medical staff review the order, identity, relevant history, current symptoms, contraindications, required testing, and whether the person meets prescriber-directed eligibility requirements. After administration, the dose and clinical response are documented and follow-up is arranged.
